Premier Tim Houston continues to say Nova Scotia is open for business and open to proposals from developers of all kinds, even if they involve parklands protected under provincial legislation.
“We will listen to them. If any company comes to Nova Scotia and says they have an idea, I think it would be irresponsible to not listen. So we’ll listen,” Houston told reporters on Thursday following a cabinet meeting.
Newly appointed Natural Resources Minister Kim Masland was asked if the Cabot Group’s proposal for a Crown lease on a portion of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park means any protected area is now fair game for developers.
Masland echoed the premier’s remarks, adding that she intends to read the Cabot proposal next week.
“We are always open for business here in Nova Scotia, and we need to look at how we can still be an economic driver and balance protection,” Masland said.
