A Cape Breton microbrewery has hopped on board to support residents upset over an Ontario-based golf resort’s renewed effort to build an 18-hole course on the grounds of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park.
“You’ve all been talking — and we’ve been listening,” Victoria County’s Big Spruce Brewing posted on its social media site. “You’ve seen the can. You’ve heard the conversation. Now it's almost time.
“The response to this has been overwhelming, and it’s clear that West Mabou Beach Provincial Park means something powerful to Nova Scotians. Coming soon!”
The can itself will be instantly recognizable for anyone travelling in or near Mabou and that portion of Inverness County: the blue-and-white “Save West Mabou Beach Provincial Park” design used on signs protesting the proposed Inverness County site under consideration by Cabot Golf, the Toronto-based developer and operator of luxury residential, resort and golf destinations worldwide.
“So we felt it was high time to shine a light shine on what we consider a fairly ridiculous situation. That led to the subsequent reach-out to the volunteer organization, and many of the residents in West Mabou and surrounding areas who have been helming this resistance the first couple of times.
"And they kindly shared the artwork (of their protest signs) with what we’re going to quickly turn around as a beer here for release next week.”
