"Holding Sand” is co-written with Dave Gunning. It reflects on the fragile and sacred beauty of landscapes like West Mabou Beach Provincial Park in Cape Breton.

"I knew it was an important time to write this song... I'm not from Mabou, but I understand what it's like to have places that restore you, the kind of places that feed your spirit, and West Mabou Beach is that for so many people." - Rose Morrison

"When a government overlooks that deep emotional and cultural value of a place, it's not just the real danger environmentally, but as a community, because once those connections are broken, they're not easily rebuilt, either," explains Rose Morrison. "I believe there's a way to build our economy and create opportunities here in Cape Breton that's rooted in respect, for people, for the land, for each other. Development can certainly happen, but it needs to happen in places that are actually for sale, not in protected areas. That's going backwards."
