Tim Houston and his yes-men are yesterday’s men, gearing up for an assault on the environment, and those who would protect it

... Houston’s yes-men are also yesterday men

In early October, one of Houston’s coterie of yes-men, Natural Resources Minister Tory Rushton, admitted to CBC reporter Michael Gorman that his government had changed its tune and was now willing to have “a conversation” with Cabot Golf about a new golf course that could include part of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park.

“We’ve been very clear this mandate: if a proponent comes to the province with an idea that can bring an economic benefit, good-paying jobs and something to Nova Scotians, then we’ll have a conversation, and that’s where we’re at right now,” Rushton told reporters.

This is not what Houston’s government was saying during its first term two years ago, when Cabot tried the same thing. In 2023, both Houston and Rushton were adamant it was not permitted by the Provincial Parks Act.

That, of course, was then. This is now, when Houston and his yesterday men seem intent on stripping away all manner of protections of the environment, biodiversity, water, and public lands, moving backwards as fast as they can to turn Nova Scotia into Canada’s Corporate Playground, where extractive industries and big money can pretty much do what they want.
