Chender visits Mabou to hear concerns over golf course

Claudia Chender, leader of the opposition, met local residents in Mabou to hear their concerns about Cabot’s desire to build a golf course in the West Mabou Beach provincial Park on Monday afternoon. 


... She acknowledged the strain the issue was causing the community. “For you, it’s a personal issue. For us,” said Chender, “it’s a systemic issue. It’s the principle of the matter.”

“The narrative we have right now,” she said, “is either you support the government agenda, or else you are a special interest group who doesn’t care about the economy. I don’t think any of you would describe yourself that way.”


... Author Kate Beaton couldn’t be there, but she submitted comments that Chender read aloud. “If this government can destroy a protected park by handing it to billionaire golf developers who are too cheap to buy private land, than anywhere in Nova Scotia is up for grabs. The only special interest groups here are the corporate ones.” This was the sentiment echoed by other speakers.
