Dear Editor,
Cabot, unbelievably, is making a third attempt to take over West Mabou Beach Provincial Park, and the government is listening! Shameful!
Cabot has nothing to lose in its repetitive and underhanded attempts to start bulldozing the Park and installing "no trespassing" sign... local residents to be excluded.
Cabot is owned by a U.S. billionaire who takes great pride in acquiring golf courses from Cape Breton to Oregon, Scotland, and St. Lucia. His ambition is to add another golf course to its portfolio by any means possible including ignoring existing by-laws and blatantly disregarding the will of the people.
Cabot refuses to buy their own land, as their approach has been to lease the golf courses and thereby reducing their financial exposure and commitment to the project - or perhaps they want to "delist" the entire Park.
Cabot will no doubt key in on outlandish claims of job creation (seasonal minimum wage) and "happy" local residents... whom I presume were "unhappy" prior to the destruction of this "protected" land.
Cabot will control any and all revenue streams generated from their proposed golf course. The clientele will be the wealthy 1%ers who will spend virtually all their time and money within the confines of Cabot controlled businesses to include transportation, meals, sleep, tours, etc. etc. Basically, any direct or spinoff financial benefit is captured in-house... it's a game to them at this point!
This whole process has well run its course and it's time for Rodney MacDonald and Cabot to move on and get over this insidious obsession.
