Details of Cabot Golf's proposal to build a new course on the grounds of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park "have yet to be publicly revealed," reveals Minister Kim Masland.

This is a Nova Scotia issue, one that challenges the values we claim to uphold: community, conservation, stewardship, and integrity.

The province is reviewing a proposal from the Cabot golf company to develop an 18-hole course within the boundaries of West Mabou Beach Provincial Park.

“People have said, ‘We’ll be in front of the bulldozers.’ Many, many people have said that. It’s terrible if it’s going to have to come to that.”

It is a very slippery slope when the provincial government starts caving to private corporations and handing over our protected areas. If this happens in Mabou, it can continue to happen in other places as well. And each time it does, it dilutes the culture of our province.

This whole process has well run its course and it's time for Rodney MacDonald and Cabot to move on and get over this insidious obsession.

How might a private resident go about buying a provincial park? It’s an absurd question - they can’t, there is no regular pathway. There should be no pathway.

How can you know if your interests are being represented if the processes of government take place behind a veil of secrecy? Transparency is a fundamental principle of democracy and it is absolutely imperative that the public be kept informed.
