Keep your hands off provincial parkland

Dear Editor,
I am writing to add my voice to the growing public record in opposition of any changes to the designation of West Mabou Beach as a Provincial Park. I am not educated enough to discuss the potential impact to piping plovers or any other creatures calling theÂ
park home, so I will leave that to Nadine Hunt and others. However, I am just wise enough to take issue with a non-registered lobbyist and his powerful friends seeking a (no doubt) favourable long-term lease to destroy both the dunes, trails, and marshland.
If Cabot is as savvy as we’re led to believe, then I wish them all the best in their negotiations with private landowners. But keep your hands off provincial parkland.
Full disclosure, I’ve been friends with Inverness MLA Kyle MacQuarrie for over 30 years. When he says he’ll consult with the community, I take him at his word. Inverness County will always be home, but I am no longer a constituent. But I pay attention. I payÂ
way too much in taxes, I have a good memory, and I vote.
NDP leader Claudia Chender should be lauded for having the balls to do what Premier Houston does not: Engage with the community and discuss the issue publicly.
Your legacies will be defined by what you do, not what you said you’d do.
Respectfully,
Gord Kennedy
