Nova Scotia’s NDP leader said Mabou residents aren’t against a golf course being built in their community — just one that isn’t built on protected land such as West Mabou Beach Provincial Park.
“If a golf course is such a lucrative project, then buy land (elsewhere),” Claudia Chender said following a community chat at the Mabou Gaelic and Historical Society. “There’s lots of private land where you could build a very beautiful course in Inverness County.”
Chender spent Monday afternoon in Mabou listening to area residents who are upset over the provincial government’s reported talks with representatives from Cabot, the Toronto-based developer and operator of luxury residential, resort and golf destinations, over what were described earlier this month by Natural Resources minister Tory Rushton as “some ideas” for resurrecting the firm’s golf course proposal for West Mabou Beach Provincial Park.
