When is a Park not a Park?

Editorial by Rankin MacDonald The Inverness Oran - October 22, 2025

...Now the temperature has risen once again because the word is out there that Cabot is taking another shot at West Mabou. It would be a beautiful place for a golf resort so they are trying for the second time to convince the government to release some of the park.

The letters that appear in The Oran are almost all against the noot development in West Mabou. So has the Freedom of Speech virus Shut down the right i free speech because pecole feel afraid to i in favouring the project? Don't want a a battle with the neighbours?

Maybe if there is a design to be shown to the people then they'd have a better idea of what could be, or not be.

Polite discussions, open discussions are the best way to proceed and let's forget the name-calling.

Cabot will do what it does, the government will do what is best for itself, and we will get a definite (?) answer by next year; we hope. People say it is up to the people of Nova Scotia to decide. Bull! It's up to the people of West Mabou and area. They are the ones in the bowl.

Maybe Cabot could operate a golf course there while protecting the environment.

But it should come to this!

The province made that area a park, protected from developers and with the environment well in mind.

The Oran, while grateful for Cabot coming to our county, believes if you designate a park. then it is a park for future generations.

If you can "de park," then what is the point of naming parks in the first place?
